Ten Traps of Studying

bulletNot knowing where to begin
Take control and make a list of things you have to do.

bulletHaving too much to study and thinking that you don't enough time to get it all done
Read your syllabus so you can plan your time accordingly so you can get all of your studying done.

bulletThe reading is so dry and boring that you can't stay awake to read it
Try to take notes or underline key concepts. Try to read when you are most alert.

bulletReading the material, understanding it, and yet it just doesn't sink in
Try to create examples that will help you relate the material to parts of your own life or something you can remember. Try mnemonics or memory-assisting techniques.

bulletGuessing you understand something after studying
Test yourself to make sure you really understand what you've just studied or read.

bulletFeeling overwhelmed by what there is to remember for a test
Try to organize the information into sections you can remember or create examples you can relate to.

bulletForgetting what you just read
Review what you read at the end of each section.

bulletStudying in bed
You should try to study in a location similar to the test location.

bulletCramming before a test
Start studying and reviewing your notes long before the test to help you remember information better.

bulletStaying up all night to study
You should avoid mental exhaustion before taking an exam.
