Illinois College 1, Monmouth 0 (2-11-1, 1-5-1)
Neither team was allowed many chances as the Fighting Scots fell to the Blue Boys in Jacksonville 1-0. Illinois College netted the only goal of the contest in the 82nd minute.

Oct. 18, 2009
Lawrence at Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.)

Monmouth 1 (2-10-1, 1-4-1), Lawrence 1 (OT)
All the scoring took place in the first half of a 1-1 tie with Lawrence. After the Vikings slipped one past Owen Robinson in the 40th minute, Andy Sheller took a Daniel Medina corner kick and headed it in for the tying goal in the 43rd minute. Neither team could mount much of an attack in the second half or overtime.

Oct. 17, 2009
St. Norbert at Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.)

St. Norbert 4, Monmouth 0 (2-10-0, 1-4)
For the second straight game, Monmouth fired all of their shots on goal, but came up empty in a 4-0 loss to St. Norbert. Eddie Martinez fired four shots on target, but was denied each time. Owen Robinson made nine saves, but a pair of St. Norbert goals in the first half and a score in the first two minutes of the second half handed the Scots the loss.

Oct. 11, 2009
Monmouth at Carroll (Waukesha, Wis.)

Carroll 4, Monmouth 0 (2-9-0, 1-3)
Monmouth gave Carroll all they wanted in the first half, but fell 4-0 to the league favorites. The Scots Eddie Martinez and Tony Swierczewski fired all three of Monmouth' shot on goal, but couldn't get one past the Pioneers' goalkeeper. The Pioneers made a goal in the 14th minute stand up, and added three insurance scores in the second half.

Oct. 10, 2009
Monmouth at Ripon (Ripon, Wis.)

Ripon 2, Monmouth 1 (2-8-0, 1-2)
The Scots fell behind early in a 2-1 loss at Ripon. Monmouth answered a Ripon goal in the 14th minute when Lucas Knox and Josh Del Valle set up Daniel Medina for his second goal of the season in the 19th minute. Owen Robinson turned aside five more shots in the first half to enter the break with a 1-1 tie. Ripon found the net in the sixth minute of the second half to hand the Scots the loss. Robinson made 10 saves on the day.

Oct. 5, 2009
Monmouth at Millikin (Decatur, Ill.)

Millikin 3, Monmouth 2 (2-7-0, 1-1)
The Fighting Scots took an early lead on an Eddie Martinez goal in the 17th minute, but couldn't hang on in a 3-2 loss to Millikin in Decatur. The Big Blue then went on a scoring binge, finding the back of the net three times in the next 27 minutes to take a 3-1 lead at halftime. Martinez, who took a pass from Lucas Knox and Josh Del Valle for his first half score, returned the favor in the second half, feeding Knox for a goal in the 77th minute, but the Scots could get no closer. Monmouth's defense stiffened in the second half, allowing just three Millikin shots and none on goal over the final 45 minutes.

Sept. 26, 2009
Monmouth at Knox (Galesburg, Ill.)

Monmouth 1 (2-5-0, 1-0), Knox 0
All that hard work finally paid off for Monmouth in a 1-0 win over Knox. It's not often a goalkeeper scores points, but that's just what Owen Robinson did on the Scots' only score. Josh Del Valle took a pass from Lucas Knox following Robinson's punt in the 51st minute to break a three-match scoring drought for the Scots who opened conference play with a win over the Prairie Fire for the second time in three years. The Scots outshot the Fire 26-3 and put 15 of their attempts on goal. Robinson turned aside the only shot on goal he saw over the 90 minutes of action.

Sept. 23, 2009
Central at Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.)

Central 1, Monmouth 0 (1-5-0)
The scenario stayed the same for Monmouth. A strong outing, but coming up just short in a 1-0 loss to Central. Owen Robinson stopped a dozen shots, but Central's Brett McKenzie put one in from the left side in the ninth minute for the game's only score. The Scots rallied late, but were only able to get one shot on goal despite playing on the Dutch's side of the field for long stretches in the second half.

Sept. 18, 2009
Monmouth at Illinois Wesleyan (Bloomington, Ill.)

Illinois Wesleyan 2, Monmouth 0 (1-4-0)
Monmouth had just a pair of defensive lapses within 30 seconds and Illinois Wesleyan took advantage in a 2-0 win over the Scots in Bloomington. The Titans punched in two goals midway through the first half and made that stand up, dropping the Scots to 1-4-0. Owen Robinson and Nicholas Vyncke made three saves each as IWU outshot Monmouth 14-3.

Sept. 15, 2009
University of Dubuque at Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.)

Dubuque 1, Monmouth 0 (1-3)
The Scots gave highly-touted Dubuque a run for the money, but fell 1-0 at home. Dubuque scored the game's only goal in the 31st minute and held off the Scots in the second half. Monmouth had quality chances, putting half of their eight shots on goal.

Sept. 13, 2009
Cornell at Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.)

Cornell 2, Monmouth 1 (1-2) (2OT)
The Scots' Garrett White scored on a corner kick in the 89th minute to force overtime, but Cornell found the back of the net with just 1:30 left in the second overtime to pull out the win on Monmouth's home turf. Monmouth outshot the Rams 34-8, but Cornell made the most of their limited opportunities, scoring just before halftime after a scramble in front of the net. The Scots had chances in overtime, but missed on their seven attempts in the two extra sessions. Cornell scored the winner with their only shot  in the final overtime.

Sept. 5, 2009
Benedictine at Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.)

Monmouth 3 (1-1), Benedictine 0
Monmouth's defense stepped up in a 3-0 win over visiting Benedictine. Benedictine was only able to get two shots on goal as Owen Robinson and Frank Bowman combined for the shutout. The Scots' Daniel Medina drove in the season's first goal on an assist from Pat Blazer and Danny Davis in the 18th minute for a 1-0 first half lead. Blazer picked up another point with an unassisted goal in the 60th minute and freshman Andrew Sheller notched his first collegiate goal in the 72nd minute to put the match away. The Scots outshot the Eagles 20-4.

Sept. 2, 2009

Elmhurst rained on Monmouth's home opener, posting a 6-0 win over the Fighting Scots. The Blue Jays' Keith Thurman put Elmhurst on the board in the ninth minute with his first of four goals on the day. The Scots trailed 2-0 at halftime, but Elmhurst put two more in the back of the net in the first 14 minutes and cruised to the win.
