Records fall as Scots take third at large meet

Release Date:  February 8 , 2010

MONMOUTH, Ill. Two school records fell and two provisional qualifying marks were met as the men’s and women’s track teams each placed third at last Saturday’s Keck Ecumenical Meet hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University.

Competing in the 21-team women’s field, Gloria Lehr threw a personal-best and tied for second in the weight throw with a provisional qualifying mark of 52’7-1/4.  Amanda Streeter and Allison Devore also had career-best marks in the weight throw. Streeter was sixth at 50’5-1/4 and Devor placed 11th at 44’11-3/4. Lehr also took second in the shot put where her mark of 40’9 was just 1-1/2” out of first.

The Scots’ other provisional mark came in the men’s 17-team field where Logan Hohl improved his 55-meter hurdle time. The junior clocked a 7.63 to finish second, just four-one-hundredths back of the winner and the sixth-best nationally. Hohl also ran a 23.36 to place seventh in the 200 as Saidu Sesay took fourth with a 23.22. Hohl also teamed with Kyle Prout, Logan Weir and Shane Reschke on the fifth-place 4x400 relay. The foursome clocked a 3:28.31.

Running in the women’s 5,000, Mary Kate Beyer took first and broke her own school record in the process. She clocked an 18:19.44 to break the old mark by nearly 10 seconds.

Freshman Rachel Bowden hasn’t wasted any time making her mark in the Fighting Scots’ record book. Bowden placed third in the 800 run and set a school record in the process. Her time of 2:20.59 set the new standard for Fighting Scots runners and was just 15-one-hundredths out of second place. The time was also just four seconds shy of the provisional qualifying time. Bowden was also part of the 4x400 relay which took fifth. She teamed with Jae Moore, Kaci Lierman and Morgan Leffel to run a 4:10.28.

A well-rounded day for Chelsey Widdop included a personal-best in the high jump where she cleared 5’2-1/4 to place third ahead of teammates Heather Hull and Sarah Stinson. Hull and Stinson each cleared 5’0-1/4 to tie for fourth. Widdop also recorded an eighth-place finish in the 55 hurdles where she ran a 9.10.

Senior Katie Staab ran to a sixth-place finish in the 3,000 with a career-best. Staab checked in with an 11:01.47.

The Scots placed all five of their men’s high jumpers in the top eight. Nick Byom cleared 6’6-3/4 to take second, two inches ahead of Sean Wells in third place. Tyler Hannam’s 6’2-3/4 placed him in a tie for fifth. Matt Hassler tied for sixth after clearing 5’10-3/4 and John Gambrel tied for seventh with the same height.
