MONMOUTH, Ill.
– Monmouth
College’s seventh straight divisional title caught the eye of the
league’s coaches as seven Fighting Scots were named South Division
all-conference. Monmouth’s Roger Sander was elected as the South
Division Coach of the Year for the sixth time and senior outfielder
Jeremy Kakfa was named the Player of the Year.
Selected to the first team, Kafka (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) led the
team with a .439 average, a .640 slugging percentage, 61 hits and 89
total bases. His three home runs in the season’s final conference
doubleheader moved him into a tie for the team lead.
Joining Kafka on the first team was classmate Jake Bice
(Colchester, Ill./West Prairie). The designated hitter picked up his
first All-MWC selection while hitting a robust .375. He tied for the
team lead in home runs and was second in walks.
Juniors Ryan Priola (St. Charles, Ill./East) and Ryan Stubler
(Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) picked up their second and third
all-league honors, respectively. Priola was named first team at
third base and Stubler picked up the first team selection as a
utility player, splitting time between third, first, designated
hitter and pitching. Priola led the team in RBIs and doubles and
tied Kafka and Bice for the team lead in roundtrippers. Stubler was
second on the team in RBIs and as a pitcher posted a 2-0 record with
a 2.63 ERA.
Sophomore pitcher Brian Chandler (Petersburg, Ill./Athens)
rounded out the first team selections. Chandler led the team in
wins, innings pitched and strikeouts.
Junior outfielder Nate Palkovic (Peoria, Ill./Woodruff) and
sophomore pitcher Matt Tye (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) were named to
the second team. Palkovic led the team in walks and tied for game
starts. Tye tied for second on the staff in wins and innings
pitched.
