Release Date: August 1, 2006
MONMOUTH, Ill. — Three
Monmouth College athletes have been named to the U.S. Track and
Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic
Track & Field Team for Division III.
Juniors Dante Daniels of Waukegan and Tim Frank of Farmington made
the men’s team, while freshman Shannon Turczyn of Peru qualified for
the women’s team.
To qualify for the team, athletes needed to balance a cumulative
grade-point average of 3.25 with an NCAA qualifying standard in
their event.
“It’s an outstanding accomplishment by these three student-athletes
to combine a national-qualifying performance with high-quality
academics,” said Monmouth track and cross country Roger Haynes.
Daniels topped the NCAA qualifying standard in three events (the
100- and 200-meter dashes and the 4x400 relay), while Frank and
Turczyn qualified in the high jump and 100-meter hurdles,
respectively. Turczyn went on to gain All-America honors by placing
fifth at the NCAA Division III National Outdoor Track and Field
Championships in May.
