Monmouth College’s Tanney
named Academic All-District

MONMOUTH, Ill. –Monmouth College senior quarterback Mitch Tanney
(Lexington, Ill./Lexington) was honored for his athletic and
academic excellence by being named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-District V College Division first team. His name will now be
placed on the national ballot for ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-American.
Tanney helped lead the 10-0 Fighting Scots to their first outright
conference title since 1972 and the school’s first-ever NCAA playoff
berth. Their opponent will be announced Sunday on ESPNews at noon
Central time.
A six-time Dean’s List recipient, Tanney has the nation’s top pass
efficiency rating in Division III this season and the 192.86 mark is
second nationally among all divisions. He currently holds nine
individual records at Monmouth and is part of 19 team records. The
Fighting Scots have set new team marks this season for scoring
(444), touchdowns (62) and fewest interceptions thrown (3).
Tanney also volunteers as a Spanish instructor at local schools and
helps with Special Olympics.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V team is voted on by
sports information directors from District V, which includes
Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin and two Canadian provinces.
Athletes must earn a minimum 3.20 cumulative GPA, have achieved at
least sophomore status at their respective school and be a starter
or key reserve in order to be nominated for the post-season honor.
Only first team all-district athletes are eligible to be placed on
the national ballot.
Tanney is the son of Don and Crystal Tanney of Lexington.
