MC’s Stubler, Schutzbach named
All-Midwest Region
Release Date: May 24, 2005
MONMOUTH, Ill. – If the American
Baseball Coaches Association is right, the future is very bright for
the Monmouth College baseball team. The ABCA this week named
Monmouth freshmen Brian Schutzbach (New Lenox, Ill./Providence) and
Ryan Stubler (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) to the All-Midwest
Region third team.
The tandem had previously been named Midwest Conference South
Division Pitcher and Palyer of the Year, respectively.
A lefthanded pitcher, Schutzbach burst onto the scene firing the
fourth no-hitter in the history of Fighting Scots baseball and the
first in more than 10 years. He led the pitching staff in strikeouts
(85) and innings pitched (75). His 1.92 ERA was tops among starters,
as was his opponent batting average (.169). He was second on the
team in wins (7).
Stubler, a third baseman, was called an “RBI machine” by the
college’s sports information staff. He lived up to the billing,
driving in a team-high 30 runs in his inaugural season. His .380
batting average was second among starters. He was among the team
leaders in five other offensive categories.
Only two other freshmen received post season honors from the ABCA.
Monmouth finished the year at 24-9, a school record for regular
season victories and the second most in the history of the program.
A biology major, Schutzbach is the son of John and Doris Schutzbach
of New Lenox.
Stubler, a math major, is the son of Joseph and Sheri Stubler of
Crystal Lake.
