MONMOUTH, Ill. – A record-setting
season at Monmouth College has earned four volleyball players
All-Midwest Conference honors.
In a vote of the league’s coaches,
Melissa Jones (Port Byron, Ill./UTHS) picked up first team
honors. She had been selected to the second team the previous two
seasons.
The senior middle hitter
holds the school career record for games played (495) and is second
in kills (1,325). She also led the team in kills (530) and
kills-per-game (4.17) Joining Jones on the first team were
first-timers Megan Harris (Easton, Ill./Illini Central) and
Molly Pendergrass (Galesburg, Ill./HS).
A senior setter, Harris holds every
setting record at Monmouth. Her 3,109 career assists is 1,353 more
than the next nearest competitor. A sophomore, Pendergrass was
second to Jones in kills (419) and kills-per-game (3.33). Among
starters, she led the team in hitting percentage (.262).
Named to the second team was junior
hitter Amy Bender (Crystal Lake, Ill./South). A first time
selection, she led the team in service aces (66) and digs (499).
This was her first postseason honor.
The Scots set the new standard for
wins in a season (26), capturing first place in the MWC’s South
Division. The 26 wins eclipsed the previous high water mark set by
the 1993 team, which went 25-11.
