Comeaux Named Women's Soccer Coach
Release Date: July 25, 2001
Sarah Comeaux of Sacramento, Calif., has been hired as the women’s soccer coach
at Monmouth College. Comeaux has an extensive soccer background, serving as an assistant
coach at the Division I level for Northern Arizona University’s women’s team from
1998-2000. In addition to the normal on and off the field coaching responsibilities, her
duties with NAU’s program included the coordination of recruiting, overseeing the
academic affairs of student-athletes and assisting with community outreach and
fundraising. She also worked with youth soccer programs at the club level in Flagstaff,
Ariz., for three years.
As a player, Comeaux starred for the
University of Mississippi, serving as the Rebels’ captain in 1995 and 1996 and leading
the SEC in scoring in 1995. In 1996, she was second in the league in scoring and was
named second team all-conference. Prior to her outstanding career at Ole Miss, Comeaux
played two years for William Carey College in Gulfport, Miss. She was a two-time NAIA
All-American in 1993 and 1994 and led all NAIA players in scoring in ’94.
"She’s an excellent coach and athlete
and is qualified and ready to be the soccer coach at Monmouth College," said Jacquelyn
Condon, MC’s vice president for student life. "We are excited to have her on our staff.
Sarah comes to us with an extensive background in coaching and tremendous personal
success in major collegiate athletic competition."
"I think we’re very fortunate to get
an individual of Sarah’s caliber," said MC athletic director Terry Glasgow. "She’s had
Division I coaching and playing experience, and that’s a plus. I really feel that all
the pieces are in place for Monmouth College to have a first-class women’s soccer
program."
Comeaux most recently worked as a
housing program manager for the Sacramento Area Emergency Housing Center. She will also
serve Monmouth College as the director of the Marshall Health and Fitness Center and the
wellness program.
