Julie Crisco Named Softball Coach
Release Date: June 15, 2000
Julie Crisco, a 1995 Monmouth
College graduate formerly of Galva, has been named the new softball coach for the
Fighting Scots. Crisco, who has served as an admission representative at the college the
last four years, will also be Kari Shimmin’s assistant coach in volleyball, and she will
coordinate the school’s wellness program, which includes overseeing all intramural
activities.
Crisco is no stranger to Monmouth
softball, having played four years for the Scots from 1992-95. She had two seasons over
.300 on her way to a .252 career average, and she stroked 55 hits in 88 games with 20
RBI. The Scots were 19-10 her senior season and Crisco was chosen co-MVP. She also
played for the volleyball team for one season.
"We’re really excited to have Julie,"
said Dr. Terry Glasgow, Monmouth College’s athletic director. "Her knowledge of softball
and her knowledge of recruiting through her admission experience makes her the ideal
choice. We’re really pleased she decided to change her career path."
All three of Crisco’s duties were
formerly held by Vanessa MacCallum, who has returned to her alma mater, Beloit College,
as the head volleyball coach and assistant softball coach. MacCallum compiled a 34-34
record in two years as MC’s softball coach, guiding the Scots to a South Division title
last spring and placing second and third, respectively, at the 1999 and 2000 Midwest
Conference Championships. She earned South Division Coach of the Year honors after both
seasons.
"We’re looking forward to the
softball team continuing its success, and to going for a championship next year,"
Glasgow concluded. |
