Men's tennis ready for season
Feb. 9, 2010 - The Fighting Scots men's tennis team is
anxious to get the season started one year after the team's
highest conference finish in over 70 years. Runners-up a
year ago, Monmouth expects to build on a solid foundation
for the future.
Two records fall as Scots place third at season's largest
meet
Feb. 8, 2010 - With just two meet left before the
Midwest Conference Championships, the Fighting Scots track
team posted two more school records and two more provisional
qualifying marks.
Men's track among nation's best
Feb. 3, 2010 - The Fighting Scots men's track team made
a triumphant return to the national rankings this week. The
national coaches' association has ranked the Scots 18th in
the latest power rankings.
Boone's efforts net Performer of the Week
Feb. 2, 2010 - Junior guard Justine Boone narrowly
missed becoming the first woman in Fighting Scots history to
record a triple-double last week. That performance was
enough to earn her the Midwest Conference Performer of the
Week award.
Record falls for women at track invitational
Feb. 1, 2010 - The Fighting Scots women shattered one
school record and the men took first by a wide margin at
last Saturday's invitational in Indiana.
Hohl, Byom named Performers of the Week
Jan. 26, 2010 - Juniors Logan Hohl and Nick Byom each
had stellar performances at last weekend's Midwest
Invitational and were rewarded for their efforts by the
Midwest Conference.
Dunn a double winner
Jan. 26, 2010 - For the second time this season, the
Midwest Conference has named swimmer Josh Dunn the Performer
of the Week.
Scots track makes jump in Week 2
Jan. 25, 2010 - Four athletes made provisional
qualifying marks in only the second week of the season. The
Scots took advantage of their home track at last Saturday's
Midwest Invitational and showed marked improvements.
Monmouth, Knox put rivalry aside to fight cancer
Jan. 25, 2010 - A rivalry that dates back to the 1800s
will be put aside this weekend - at least for a few hours -
when Monmouth and Knox Colleges host a cancer research
fundraiser.
Scots track men nationally ranked
Jan. 22, 2010 - It didn't take long for the men's track
team to impress a national coaches association. The Scots
debuted at No. 21 this week in the season's first power
ratings.

performances in the Fighting Scots' first track meet of the
season and earned conference accolades for their efforts.
Scots team with NCAA to invite kids to weekend's games
Jan. 19, 2010 - Area youth will have an afternoon of fun
at Monmouth College's Glennie Gymnasium Saturday when the
Fighting Scots participate in the NCAA's Take a Kid to the
Game initiative.
Williams named conference Performer of the Week
Jan. 18, 2010 - Freshman Zipporah Williams made a big
statement by averaging a double-double last week and was
named the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week.
Tanney named nation's top Division III player
Jan. 14, 2010 - Quarterback Alex Tanney can add the
"nation's best player" to his resume after the junior was
announced as the winner of the prestigious Melberger Trophy.
The award is given annually to the best DIII football player
in the nation as sleected by a nationwide panel.
Track ready for another run in 2010
Jan. 12, 2010 - The Fighting Scots have plenty of fresh
faces on the track for the upcoming season. They'll mix that
with a solid veteran base in their quest to repeat as

Another All-American award for the Scots
Dec. 21, 2009 - D3football.com is the latest to honor
the Monmouth College football team with an All-American,
naming quarterback Alex Tanney to the second team.
Student-athletes brighten the holidays for less fortunate
Dec. 16, 2009 - Members of Monmouth's Student-Athlete
Advisory Committee made a special delivery Tuesday to some
special needs residents in Monmouth.
Goranson AFCA All-American in national vote of coaches
Dec. 15, 2009 - Defensive end Anthony Goranson became
one of just 25 Division III players nationwide to be named
an All-American by a national coaches group.
Tanney edged in Gagliardi voting
Dec. 15, 2009 - Quarterback Alex Tanney gave it a good
run, but came up just short in his bid to become the
Fighting Scots' first winner of the prestigious Gagliardi
Trophy. Tanney was the lone junior in the field of four
finalists for the nation's top award.
School-record five football Scots named All-West Region
Dec. 11, 2009 - It's never happened before, but then
again, the football team had never made back-to-back
appearances in the NCAA playoffs until this year, either. A
school-record five Fighting Scots were named to the
D3football.com All-West Region team announced this week.
Tanney makes final four in balloting for nation's top award
Dec. 10, 2009 - Junior quarterback Alex Tanney cleared
another hurdle in his quest to become Monmouth's first
winner of the prestigious Gagliardi Trophy. Tanney was named
the West Region representative, making him one of four
finalists for the Division III equivalent of the Heisman.
Dunn deal for Performer of the Week
Dec. 8, 2009 - Breaking two school records four times in
the span of one swim meet earned Josh Dunn the Midwest
Conference Co-Performer of the Week honor.
Scots have improved marks at large invitational
Dec. 7, 2009 - One school record fell and numerous
others were threatened last weekend as the Fighting Scots
wrapped up the first half of their season.
Scots named academic all-conference
Dec. 2, 2009 - More than 20 Fighting Scots have been
named academic all-conference for the fall season. Kendra
Catterton (women's golf) and Emily Caron (women's soccer)
earned the distinction a maximum three times.
Tanney named finalist for national honor
Nov. 30, 2009 - For the second time in five years, a
Fighting Scots quarterback has been named a finalist for the
prestigious Gagliardi Trophy, awarded to Division III's
outstanding football player.
High scoring offenses meet in football's first round
Nov. 19, 2009 - There could be plenty of points scored
Saturday when the No. 8 ranked Fighting Scots host No. 10
St. Thomas. Monmouth has the nation's No. 2 scoring offense
and the Tommies feature the No. 9 offense.
Soccer's Robinson earns second all-conference honor
Nov. 18, 2009 - Senior Owen Robinson saved his best for
last, earning his second consecutive all-Midwest Conference
honor in his final campaign.
Football sweeps Coach, Players of the Year honors
Nov. 18, 2009 - Coach Steve Bell and quarterback Alex
Tanney repeated at the Midwest Conference Coach and
Offensive Player of the Year. Defensive end Anthony Goranson
made it a clean sweep after being named the Defensive Player
of the Year.
Beyer, Staab named all-region, Beyer to national meet
Nov. 16, 2009 - Junior Mary Kate Beyer and senior Katie
Staab earned all-region status at last weekend's NCAA
Midwest Regional. Beyer will run one more race this weekend.
Soccer's Broms nets first all-conference award
Nov. 16, 2009 - Junior defender Hillary Broms impressed
the Midwest Conference coaches this season and was named to
the all-Midwest Conference second team.
Swimmers take two of top three spots at own invitational

the Scots' swim team place two, three at their own
invitational.
Football to learn 1st Round playoff opponent Sunday
Nov. 13, 2009 - They've been there before. The Midwest
Conference Champion Fighting Scots will gather Sunday to
learn the identity of their opponent in the 1st Round of the
NCAA Division III football playoffs.

Conference volleyball coaches to notice the Scots' Chelsey
Widdop, naming the freshman to the all-conference first

Sparks set pool record, earns conference award
Nov. 10, 2009 - Krysta Sparks wasted no time in
rewriting the Pepper Natatorium pool record book in last
weekend's dual meets. For her efforts, she was named
Co-Performer of the Week by the Midwest Conference.
Shepherd sets record in Bronze Turkey game, earns award
Nov. 9, 2009 - Matt Shepherd and the Fighting Scots
offense exploded in the second half for a 42-0 win over
rival Knox in the 121st Bronze Turkey game.
Bronze Turkey isn't the only motivation for Scots
Nov. 5, 2009 - Monmouth's football team will be playing
for more than the Bronze Turkey when they meet Knox this
weekend for the 121st time. An undefeated regular season
would be just one of the rewards of a Scots' win against
their longtime rivals.
Scots football back in Top 10 in two national polls
Nov. 2, 2009 - A convincing win Saturday not only
guaranteed the Scots at least a share of the Midwest
Conference title, it also moved the Scots back into the Top
10 of two national polls.
Seven earn all-conference status at league meet
Nov. 2, 2009 - Katie Staab became Monmouth's first woman
to earn four all-conference honors after last weekend's
Midwest Conference meet. The Scots men and women each took

plenty of talented veterans and potentially great newcomers
on his men's and women's swim teams for the 2009-10 season.
Hughes, Bittner subject of NCAA Woman of the Year feature
Oct. 17, 2009 - When Tanesha Hughes was selected as a
semifinalist for the NCAA Woman of the Year award, she
joined women's basketball coach Melissa Bittner in making a
bit of NCAA history.
Five softball Scots named All-American Scholar-Athletes
Oct. 15, 2009 - The National Fastpitch Coaches
Association recently recognized five Scots as All-American
Scholar-Athletes.
Hughes named semifinalist for NCAA's Woman of the Year
August 27, 2009 - Monmouth alum Tanesha Hughes was a
proven winner during her playing days as a Fighting Scot.
She's continuing that trend as a graduate, advancing to the
semifinals of the NCAA Woman of the Year competition.
Niemeier named to lead Scots swimming and diving team
July 29, 2009 - The Fighting Scots selected a proven
winner to lead the men's and women's swim teams. Four-time
conference champion Kurt Niemeier was selected from a
nationwide pool of candidates.
