Brenda Tooley

MONMOUTH, Ill. — Brenda Tooley, a former faculty member and academic administrator at Colorado College and Cornell College, has been named director of the grants program and associate dean at Monmouth College. Tooley previously served as associate dean at Colorado and as dean at Cornell. Both colleges are, like Monmouth, consortial members of the Associates Colleges of the Midwest.

“Dr. Tooley brings a unique combination of skills to Monmouth,” said Jane Jakoubek, MC’s vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college. “Her experience in developing new initiatives as a faculty member and administrator will enable her to assist Monmouth faculty in advancing their ideas and plans. The real beneficiaries will be our students, who will have access to new opportunities for engagement and learning.”

As director of the grants program, Tooley will assist with proposal writing, identify sources of external funding that support the mission and initiatives of the college and faculty, provide administrative and editorial support throughout the grant application process and assist faculty and staff in pursuing opportunities and implementing grant-funded activities. As associate dean, she will support faculty development and academic initiatives at Monmouth.

Tooley began the current academic year at Monmouth as an administrative fellow in the office of the dean, working on a variety of faculty and administrative projects. Her new role is consistent with her wide teaching and administrative experiences at the other ACM schools. She joined Colorado College in 1991 as a tenure-track faculty member in the English department, serving as associate dean of faculty from 1999 to 2005. She served as vice president for academic affairs and dean at Cornell from 2005 to 2008.

Tooley graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1983 and earned her master’s degree there the following year. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of Notre Dame in 1991.
