Monmouth College to observe

MONMOUTH, Ill. — Monmouth College will observe Latino
Heritage Day on Sept. 30 with two events that are open to the public.
At noon, Tey D. Rebolledo, the Regents’ Professor of Spanish at the
University of New Mexico, will give a talk entitled "Crossings: Images
of the Border in Chicana Writing and Art."
A buffet lunch is available. A meal ticket may be purchased for $7.50
in the food service office in Stockdale Center. Lunch reservations must
be made in advance by calling Ruby Pentsil-Bukari at 309-457-2241, but
anyone may attend the presentation without obligation to purchase the
meal.
At 7 p.m., there will be a free performance by Las Guitarras D’Espana
(The Guitars of Spain) in the Kasch Performance Hall of the Dahl Chapel
and Auditorium. The group brings a mixture of flamenco and Caribbean
tunes with an African and Middle Eastern influence.
Rebolledo specializes in Chicana literature, Latin American poetry
and women’s literature. She has authored several works, including "The
Chronicles of Panchita Villa and Other Guerillas: Essays on Chicana/Latina
Literature and Criticism" (University of Texas Press, 2005). Besides
being a Regents’ Professor at UNM, she has also been named a
Distinguished Professor and a New Mexico Eminent Scholar.
