MONMOUTH, Ill. — Monmouth College music lecturer Julia
Andrews will premier new works by American composer Dirk Stromberg in a recital
in Vietnam on Nov. 7.
During her week-long trip to Vietnam, Andrews will give a master
class with Chinese-American composer Bright Sheng, who is respected as
one of the foremost contemporary composers. His stage, orchestral,
chamber and vocal works are performed regularly throughout North
America, Europe and Asia.
Andrews will also perform at a local jazz club with celebrated jazz
saxophonist Tran Manh Tuan and give a master class to piano students at
the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, which is co-sponsoring her
trip, along with Monmouth College.
"I look forward to representing the college as a guest artist at the
conservatory," said Andrews. "The trip promises to be an exciting
interaction between Monmouth College and Vietnam."
Upon returning, Andrews will discuss her trip during a "Global
Perspectives" class on campus. She plans to perform the works she’s
premiering in Vietnam at a concert in Monmouth next spring.
