MONMOUTH, Ill. — Monmouth College will host a
computer modeling workshop for area educators June 13-19.
Titled “Computational Science in Undergraduate
Education: A First Look,” the workshop is sponsored by the National
Computational Science Institute (NCSI), a branch of the Shodor Educational
Foundation.
James Godde, assistant professor of biology at MC,
is acting as the workshop coordinator. While NCSI is holding similar
workshops at 12 other colleges and universities across the country this
summer, Godde said that Monmouth’s is special.
“Our workship is one of only three that is
specifically geared toward introducing interdisciplinary participants to
the concepts and software used in computer modeling, the creation of
computer simulations and the use of other computational methods specific
to their discipline.
“I’m very excited to be hosting this meeting,” he
continued. “I attended a similar workshop last summer and have benefited
greatly from the experience. Now educators from area schools can learn how
to use more computational methods in their teaching and research.”
