String Ensemble will perform
at next Monmouth Associates
Release Date: March 14, 2002
The
Monmouth College String Ensemble will provide the program at the next Monmouth Associates on
March 21 at noon in the Highlander Room of Stockdale Center.
The Associates program is free; lunch costs $6. Please call 309-457-2316 to make luncheon
reservations.
Under
the direction of department of music lecturer Carolyn Suda, the ensemble, which formed in
2000, includes senior Rebekah McBeth of Pleasant Prairie, Wis.; juniors Rebecca Russell of
Peotone and Andrew Rubia of Park Forest; sophomores Emily Nathan of Bloomington and Kristin
Lee of Streamwood; freshmen Antoinette Humphry of Brookfield and Rebecca Kauffman of
Congerville; department of classics lecturer Virginia Hellenga; and Sarah Hutchcroft. The
group has grown from seven to 10 members in just 18 months, and Suda hopes to see a continued
rise in numbers as prospective students learn about the new musical option.
In
addition to performing in campus concerts with some of the college’s vocal ensembles, the
String Ensemble has played at numerous events, including the dedication ceremony for Bowers
Hall, a meeting of the presidents of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest and a benefit
concert for Jamieson Community Center.
A free shuttle van, which leaves from the northeast quadrant of the Public Square at
approximately 11:55 a.m., is available to bring guests to Monmouth Associates. The van will
return to the square immediately following the program. Shuttle reservations should be made by
calling the above number.
