MC Students Earn Awards in National Latin Exam

Eleven
Monmouth College Latin students earned awards for outstanding performance on the 2002
National Latin Exam.
A gold medal and a summa cum laude certificate are
awarded to top scorers; a silver medal and maxima cum laude certificate to second place
winners; a magna cum laude certificate to third place winners; and a cum laude certificate
to fourth place winners. More than 120,000 Latin students from all 50 states and nine foreign
countries took the exam, which is offered each year during the second week in March. Monmouth
College is one of only five colleges to administer the exam to its students.
Three students received awards for the Latin V exam: Marty Pickens,
Elgin, silver medal and maxima cum laude certificate; Jennifer Mitten, Spring Grove, magna cum
laude certificate; and Dawn McRoberts, Shabbona, cum laude certificate.
Eight students received awards from the Latin I exam: Misty Bowman,
Monmouth, gold medal and summa cum laude certificate; Clint Albracht, Moline, gold medal and
summa cum laude certificate; Brian Walgren, Batavia, silver medal and maxima cum laude
certificate; Robyn Shope, Bartonville, silver medal and maxima cum laude certificate; Matt
Shoemaker, Monmouth, silver medal and maxima cum laude certificate; Alexis Oddson, Richton
Park, magna cum laude certificate; Sheena Glass, Galesburg, cum laude certificate; and
Katherine Minor, Washington, Pa., cum laude certificate.
