MC Psi Chi Chapter Raises Funds for Campaign

John Wright of Galesburg spoke on April 23rd at Monmouth College about his upcoming
cross-country bicycle journey, his life-long battle with schizophrenia and his ongoing
recovery.

The Monmouth College Psychology Psi Chi Chapter raised $220 for his campaign.
The talk, which was free and open to the public, was given
at 4 p.m. in Room 109 of Haldeman -Thiessen Science Center.
Wright's Bridgeway Across America, a bicycle journey
for mental illness awareness, will begin in Seattle, Wash., and continue across the country,
with the final destination being Portsmorth, N.H. He will depart later this spring and
continue for approximately three months, depending upon his number of speaking engagements.
Wright is planning to persuade communities to support their local mental health centers
through donations.
The 37-year-old Wright is a living example of how mental
illnesses can be managed through treatment, as he is recovering with the help of medication,
treatment and community support. He has been part of the Community Support Program at
Bridgeway in Galesburg for seven years.
