Many
students, faculty, and staff may be wondering, "Where has the
coffee gone in Wallace Hall?"
This past week the
popular coffee stop on the first floor of Wallace Hall, right
outside the President’s office, Taste of the Rockies, closed its
business to the students and staff of Monmouth College.
This popular stop
for students on their way to classes and for faculty members
needing a caffeine boost during their day closed down due to a
lack of funds, said operator senior Jordan Hedberg.
"The beginning of
the year started off strong with sales, but the past three
months, it has gotten too expensive to maintain," Hedberg said.
Hedberg also said
that he does not have the funds to keep Taste of the Rockies
going. "It’s not the fault of anyone. It is due to the economy
right now."
Senior Melissa
Lindsay, who worked at the popular coffee shop had some thoughts
about the closing of Taste of the Rockies. "I’m really sad that
the coffee shop closed because I enjoyed working there and
getting to talk to everyone passing through Wallace Hall. It was
a great place for students to go and get reasonably priced, high
quality coffee, and while I understand the reasons behind it
closing, I wish it could have stayed open."
Hedberg, who was disappointed with
having to close Taste of the Rockies said that he hopes that
maybe with his starting of a student run business on campus,
that he has inspired other to possibly do the same in the
future.
