Water polo member, writer of music, and even a bacon
eating record holder, Senior Joe Moran is a man of many talents.
Moran comes to
Monmouth College from Naperville, Ill., double majoring in
Political Science and History.
Moran keeps busy
when it comes to activities on campus. He is involved in
Monmouth College’s water polo team, which just placed second in
the nation’s Division III mens’ club Championship, a member of
the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, Pre- Law Society, and according
to Moran, "this and that."
Moran likes playing
piano, guitar, and singing. He also composes his own music. When
he is not playing water polo or composing some music, Moran
hangs out with his friends and plays video games. He also spends
time with his fiancé, Jessica Houser, and going out to eat,
especially sushi, which is one of the couple’s favorite foods.
Moran has many
interesting facts about him that many people may not know. First
of all, Moran weighs less that fellow senior John Kaiser. He is
an avid cook, and loves cooking for his fiancé.
"I have been helping
my (Italian) mother cook since I was a child and somewhere along
the line, I learned how to cook myself," said Moran.
Moran used to sleep
with a polo ball next to his bed during his Freshman year.
"I can’t anymore
because one night I threw it in my sleep and knocked stuff over
in the night," he said. "I scared the crap out of my roommate."
Moran holds his
family’s bacon eating record. "I would describe how much it was,
but you would barf," he said.
Since being at
Monmouth College, Moran has had many good memories, such as
playing in the twenty-four hour water polo game to support the
national breast cancer foundation and placing second at
nationals for water polo. The one big memory that Moran has at
Monmouth is when he proposed to his fiancé.
"There was snow in
the parking lot where we started dating and I got down on one
knee and she was like ‘omg, I love you, you are so amazing and
strong and handsome and you smell nice and junk.’ Actually, she
just cried and said yes, but what she meant was all the other
stuff. She was just too excited to articulate it," said Moran.
After graduation,
Moran plans on becoming a "world class wombat trainer, and then
train wombats to wear suits and follow me into court rooms and
basically be my personal assistants." In all reality Moran will
be getting married in June and before heading off to Law School.
"I will miss my underclassmen
friends and having them ask me for advice," said Moran. "I will
[also] miss my polo team
